Perfect Your Smile with Veneers
What Is There to Know About This Cosmetic Treatment?

Veneers

Are you 100% happy with your smile? Many patients aren’t completely satisfied with the appearance of their teeth – maybe they’re chipped or somewhat crooked in appearance, unusual in shape/size, have gaps, or are dull and yellow. Well… if you suffer from any of these dental aesthetic issues, you’re in luck: veneers can fix all of that for you, and will be able to give you the smile of your dreams!

How Does It Work?

Veneers are wafer-thin, tooth-coloured shells. They’re bonded to the surfaces of the teeth in order to restore or improve their natural look (all while providing strength to each tooth treated). These shells have the ability to mask stains and restore chipped/broken teeth, and change the overall shape of the tooth. Your smile will appear much more uniform and consistent, and you’ll want to show it off at every chance you get.

If your dentist determines you are indeed a candidate for cosmetic veneers, he or she will first take impressions of your teeth and will send them off to a lab to be custom created. After about a couple of weeks, your veneers will be ready for placement! Some of your enamel will be removed to prepare your teeth for the bonding process. The dentist will trim each veneer as necessary, and then bond them to each tooth using a special cement material. Sometimes, a patient will wear temporary veneers for the time being.

So… Am I a Candidate?

Most patients with healthy teeth and gums are candidates for cosmetic veneers. It’s best to see your dentist for a consultation and discuss your particular cosmetic concerns. There may be another cosmetic dental treatment that is more suitable for treating your condition than veneers, such as teeth whitening to brighten your smile, or orthodontic treatment to correct the positioning of the teeth.

A Painless, Beautiful Smile

If you’re interested in veneers to perfect your smile but fear that it may be painful, you’ll be happy to know that the procedure is painless. A local anesthetic is used to numb the areas being prepared for bonding, so patients can sit comfortably in the chair as their smile receives a stunning makeover! You can also ask about being sedated for your treatment if the idea of the procedure makes you anxious. Our Burlington sedation dentist cares about your comfort and wellbeing when you visit our clinic.
